Job Description:
The Instructional Designer actively collaborates and engages with faculty to design and build engaging online courses and instructional assessments and activities. Additionally, the Instructional Designer provides guidance and support to faculty through each stage of course development. The ideal Instructional Designer must have a proven understanding of adult learning methodologies, LMS administration, rapid e-learning authoring tools, course design, development, and support, and the ability to thrive within a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare for and lead organized yet adaptive meetings with faculty to gather information and buy-in on customized online course delivery strategies.
  • Articulate and reinforce course development process and faculty responsibilities, as well as establish milestone deadlines and gain buy-in from faculty to meet deadlines.
  • Track and frequently report the statuses of courses throughout the development process.
  • Utilize e-learning authoring tools to design interactive learning solutions.
  • Manage intake and organization of digital assets throughout the course development process.
  • Manage courses independently with continued support from the development team. Define objectives for courses/curricula.
  • Outline concepts for courses/ curricula, defining (needs for) the course medium, content delivery, assessments, accompanying materials, and complementary learning approaches.
  • Design assessments and meaningful course interactions to increase learning and retention.
  • Work with video production and graphics sources to produce a draft and final versions of course material.
  • Seek out and engage with opportunities to think creatively and find innovative solutions to online course delivery challenges - then doggedly see them through to successful execution.
  • Ability to articulate passion for driving positive learner outcomes through innovation in digital education. Develop content in collaboration with faculty.
  • Build new courses in LMS. Review and reformat course content before course materials and content are added to LMS.
  • File and organize reviewed course content and other curriculum-related materials.
  • Update content for existing courses in the LMS. Provide maintenance for existing courses as needed.
  • Design and build graded assessments using provided content.
  • Review course materials for quality and consistency.
  • Learn new and emerging technologies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
