The Disability Resource Center (DRC) is the office for students with disabilities and classroom accommodations on CSN's campuses. As part of the student accommodation process, we work collaboratively with students and instructors to provide effective student accommodations and needed auxiliary aids. While the DRC primarily focuses on student accommodations, The position of Speech-To-Text Coordinator will manage the coordination and facilitation of speech-to-text services and accommodations for the West Charleston Campus (WC), North Las Vegas Campus (NLV), Henderson Campus (HN), and satellite campuses.
The DRC Speech-to-Text Coordinator works with a collaborative and supportive team, interacts with CSN students, faculty/staff, and various campus partners to provide quality speech-to-text services to students and campus. As part of the diverse and engaging college environment, this individual would have the opportunity for a variety of speech-to-text assignments, including classes, local campus events, nationally recognized speakers, job accommodations, student organizations, and more. This individual will also balance the direct service work by working closely with and coordinating a team of speech-to-text providers, collaborating with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) Services team, and units across campus as the coordinator for speech-to-text requests.
The Speech-to-Text Coordinator maintains a caseload of students and collaborates closely with campus Accessibility Specialists. The Speech-to-Text Coordinator works in conjunction with the Senior Interpreter Coordinator and assists in promoting a welcoming and inclusive environment for disabled individuals. CSN is committed to providing equal access to all campus programs, opportunities, and activities for students with disabilities or medical/mental health conditions. It is anticipated this position requires work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3 years of related professional experience which may include lead or supervisory experience.
- Formal training and licensure in an approved speech-to-text software, or commitment to be trained and begin to secure required licensure within 6 months of hire.
- Typewell licensure or Education history from "Typewell".
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced college degree in a related field from an accredited college/university.
- Advanced interpreter training certification.
- 3 or more years interpreting experience with Deaf and hard-of-hearing people, preferably in a post-secondary setting.
- Typewell Transcribers: current license in your name.
- Current certification to provide CART, licensure from the State of Nevada (or the ability to secure within 30 days).
The ideal candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Knowledge of approved speech-to-text formats such as CART, Typewell, Dragon Diction, or computerized notetaking for students and staff with documented hearing loss and registered with the Disability Resource Center.
- Knowledge of industry-recognized code of ethics and general regarding the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Culture.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the English language, including grammatical structures, syntax, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation.
- Ability to effectively provide real-time and/or conceptualized speech-to-text for spoken English. Situations can be but are not limited to; credit courses, workforce courses, student and engagement, community functions sponsored by CSN, and staff functions.
- Ability to make professional autonomous decisions in a variety of educational situations.
- Ability to follow all institutional policies and procedures. All software licenses and all licenses must be in current standing with the ability to verify.
- Knowledge of ADA, ADAA, Section 504 of Rehab Act.
- Knowledge of FERPA rules governing privacy, NSHE and community college policies and procedures, challenges affecting community college students, case management practices, and follow-up processes.
- Skilled use of computer programs and applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Titanium, Outlook, Access, and Student Information Systems.
- Ability to supervise professional, classified, and student staff, conduct outreach presentations and workshops, plan events, lead a team, solve problems, conduct student interviews, and maintain the confidentiality of student records. Ability to multi-task and communicate orally and in writing.

Starting Salary Information
Administrative Faculty C
The starting salary is $61,875.
