Part-Time Licensed Interpreter for the Deaf - FY 2025
Job Description
This is a part-time position. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis to establish an applicant pool. As vacancies occur, they are filled from the pool.
The Provider will interpret in American Sign Language for Deaf and hard of hearing students, staff, and community members attending institution functions in a broad spectrum of assignments. These can be but are not limited to credit courses, workforce courses, student engagement activities, and community events sponsored by CSN.
Responsibilities include
- Requires the provider to effectively interpret or translate spoken language into manual sign language.
- Effectively interpret from American Sign Language into spoken English Language.
- Effectively communicate in written and spoken English.
- Make professional, autonomous decisions in a variety of educational interpreting situations based on the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Conduct and institutional policy and procedures.
- Function as an active team member in the interpreting process when required.
- Research terminology and information used to interpret/transliterate in classroom situations and college-related activities.
- Convey material effectively, accurately, and impartially, through the use of any necessary specialized vocabulary.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Complete all documentation required for verification of services in a timely manner.
- Exhibit professional conduct and skilled contribution in the workplace.
- Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to the institution at all times.
- Assume responsibility for continued professional development and maintain certificate and licensure at all times.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent
- Current licensure from the State of Nevada or the ability to license within 30 days
- National certification: EIPA 4.0 or NAD-RID certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience interpreting in Post-Secondary Education
- College degree or coursework
Starting Salary
- EIPA 4.0 or above: $35.00 - $51.00
- RID, NIC and/or NAD: $41.00 - $62.00
