JOB SUMMARY

The Advisor will be the first point of contact for students, staff, faculty and parents engaging with the Center for Global Education (CGE). From guiding students through the study abroad lifecycle to supporting F-1 international students to maintain their legal status and access necessary resources, the Global Education Advisor will play a critical role in the integration of global and multicultural experiences into the lives of Simmons' students.

Simmons' Center for Global Education (CGE) strives to cultivate and grow the intercultural competency of the Simmons community. The Center is responsible for managing international student services as well as education abroad programming.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Serve as primary advisor for Simmons students pursuing study abroad opportunities and international students in F-1 status.
  • Promote study abroad opportunities to Simmons students.
  • Serve as a DSO (Designated School Official) for the University's F-1 international student visa program.
  • Develop relationships with study abroad partner universities and program providers.
  • Host study abroad and international student events including but not limited to study abroad pre-departure orientations, international student orientations and information sessions.
  • Grow and implement opportunities for students returning from study abroad to incorporate their international experience into their career development plans.
  • Coordinate study abroad alumni to share their experiences through participation in pre-departure orientations, photo contests,etc.
  • Work with the Registrar's Office to facilitate the study abroad course approval process.
  • Partner with the Colleges of the Fenway (COF) GEO Center to market study abroad and opportunities for international student engagement. Serve on GEO Center committees.
  • Work with the CGE Director to: Manage the Home School Tuition budget and coordinate payments to our study abroad partners.
  • Represent the CGE at Simmons events including Admissions Open Houses, the Major Exploration Fair and the Career Fair.
  • Be accountable for utilizing a University credit card and allocating purchases in Workday
  • Supervise, hire, and train student workers for the CGE (Study Abroad and International Student Assistants)


OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum of two years of professional work experience
  • Knowledge of and experience with academic program development and implementation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of current issues in the field of international education
  • US citizenship (for SEVIS purposes)
  • Experience as a Designated School Official (DSO)advising international students in F-1 status
  • Strong organizational, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and program management skills


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three plus years in a role advising undergraduate students
  • Experience studying, living, or working abroad
  • Master's degree in related field
  • History of working with systems like Terra Dotta, Canva, Moodle, EABs Starfish, Workday
  • Knowledge of one or more languages other than English

WORK ENVIRONMENT & CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Eligible for hybrid work up to 2 days remote.
  • Standard office environment when on campus.
  • Required to sit for long periods of time.
  • Frequently required to walk, occasionally stand, reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel or crouch.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
