Position Announcement
As the Center for Constitutional Studies expands work on the Quill Project, the Archival Projects Specialist (APS) will work to advance the mission of the Center to promote constitutional literacy by working alongside Quill Project colleagues at UVU and the Quill Project leadership at Pembroke College, Oxford. The APS will work with the Quill Project Documentary Editors at UVU and Oxford, and with student researchers at UVU to manage the modeling of state constitutional conventions within the Quill Project platform; create and deliver training resources to Quill Project team members; research primary source materials for state constitutional conventions; use the Quill Project platform to create digital models of state constitutional conventions.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Research - conducts in depth research into the primary sources needed to accurately model a state constitutional convention in the platform. Surveys the conditions of the records, working with libraries and state archives to obtain records that may not be available digitally or may be incomplete. Explores secondary sources to supplement the model or provide additional insight to better inform the modeling practices and procedures. In coordination with UVU and Pembroke scholars, develops a personal research project and paper for publication.
- Digital Model Creation - use the Quill Project platform to create interactive textual and visual digital models of constitutional conventions and legislative proceedings.
- Project Management - Manges a Quill Project research project and team. In collaboration with the Documentary Editors at Oxford and UVU, develops the work plan for large scale archival, digital humanities research projects. Identifies inaccurate or incorrect practices in active projects and helps correct them through instruction and/or additional trainings, or editing the model in the platform.
- Training - In collaboration with the Quill Project student leadership and Documentary Editor at UVU, develops and implements in-person trainings for Quill Project student researchers and partners and provides additional remote trainings as needed. Serves as a resource to Quill Project team members at UVU for archival questions.
- Perform other job related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in a closely related field and one year of experience closely related to the Position Duties, or a combination of education and experience closely related to the Position Duties totaling five years.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum qualifications plus more than one year of experience using the Quill Project platform in the creation of state constitutional conventions, and at least one year of experience leading a Quill Project research team.
