The School of Music in the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, Assistant Professor of Practice to begin in Fall 2025.


Major/Essential Functions
As a faculty member in the School of Music you will be expected to recruit and retain students for the MM collaborative piano degree and certificate programs in the areas of instrumental and vocal music; lead and oversee all collaborative piano curriculum and activities; teach lessons; mentor and advise a studio of MM collaborative piano students, including studio classes. The successful candidate will oversee and coordinate all graduate assistants who serve as collaborative pianists in support of the instrumental and voice/opera areas; teach courses related to collaborative piano; and perform additional collaborative piano needs to support the School of Music.
The successful candidate will be a member of the piano area and will collaborate in performances with School of Music faculty, guest artists and students.

Required Qualifications
  1. Doctorate in collaborative piano, piano performance, or closely related area.
  2. Demonstrated experience teaching applied, one-on-one collaborative piano lessons and courses in collaborative piano.
  3. Relevant professional activity and experience that demonstrates emerging or established national/international recognition in the field of Collaborative Piano.


Preferred Qualifications
  1. In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
  2. Evidence of ability to work across schools in the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
  3. Proven ability to recruit and retain a talented cohort of students to collaborative piano programs within the School of Music and/or a record of success in program building for a collaborative piano program.
  4. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  5. Ability and desire to engage in service activities such as curricular review and programmatic assessment; overseeing the collaborative piano area; coordinating student assignments; and serving on committees as necessary.
