Job Description
DWED (Department of Workforce and Economic Development) with the Applied Technology Department at The College of Southern Nevada invites applications for A Part-Time Instructor Position within the Advanced Manufacturing Program beginning ASAP. The successful candidate will demonstrate industry and teaching experience.
The Advanced Manufacturing Instructor will develop and instruct lab and lecture classes and develop student learning outcomes and course descriptions. This includes organizing instruction towards achieving student learning objectives; selecting textbooks and another curriculum; conferring with students; evaluating student mastery and providing a safe and positive classroom and laboratory environment.
Primary teaching areas are in Advanced Manufacturing Technology topics.
The primary core courses will be in sub-disciplines such as the following:
- Mechanical Technology (Required)
- Automation/ Robotics (Preferred)
- Programmable Logic Controls and microprocessors/controllers (Preferred)
- Industrial Electricity (Required)
- Electronics (Preferred)
- AC/DC Motors (Required)
- Motor Control and DC/AC Drives (Required)
- Related Engineering Technology and Technical Physics classes
- Develop and implement curriculum and lesson plans
Other duties will include:
- Program assessment and curriculum development; student mentoring; assess student learning and progress, scholarship of teaching and learning; maintaining accurate student records, upholding professional and ethical standards, participate in professional development activities; outreach to the college, community, and profession; supervising student assistants and staff as necessary; collaborate with other instructors and staff and duties as assigned by the Director of Advanced Manufacturing.
The Advanced Manufacturing Instructor will collaborate with the Director of Advanced Manufacturing for both credit courses and non-credit courses, offered through the Division of Workforce and Economic Development (DWED), which include the following responsibilities:
- Assist with the development, monitor alignment, and collaboration between credit and noncredit manufacturing programs.
- Facilitating partnerships with industry to address manufacturing industry education and training needs.
The candidate is expected to participate in department, and college-wide committees, as well as student recruitment activities. The candidate will participate and assist the team to maintain and develop strong industry and community partnerships, within and outside of the program advisory committee. They will also commit to continuing their professional development as an educator through attendance at industry conferences and membership in professional associations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Hold an associate's degree in the following: Mechatronics, Mechanical or Electrical Technology, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Degrees in related fields are also acceptable) OR a minimum of 5 years of Industrial Experience AND
- A minimum of 2 years of Industrial Experience (Preferred)
- A minimum of 1 year of teaching experience in Career and Technical Education (Preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education, adult education, or a related field
- Experience teaching IET programs, preferably in a CTE setting
- Experience teaching ABE, including ESL, math, and reading
- Ten or more years of work experience in the industry.
- Two or more years of experience teaching in Career and Technical Education.
- Industrial Certifications.
- Experience teaching online/hybrid classes.
- Experience teaching online/hybrid classes using Canvas.
- Experience creating a college curriculum.
- Experience developing either industrial or engineering technology lab(s) in a college setting.
- Experience working in diverse multicultural situations
