About the Opportunity

Position Summary

The College of Professional Studies (CPS) at Northeastern University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Open Rank Teaching Professor position in the Master of Science in Project Management. The position is based at our campus in Miami, FL.

The Master of Science in Project Management program is one of the largest Project Management programs in North America and is a GAC (Global Accreditation Center) accredited by the Project Management Institute, Inc. Classes are offered in hybrid and online formats at the University's Main Campus in Boston and campuses in the Northeastern global campus network including Charlotte, NC; Seattle, WA; Silicon Valley, CA; Portland, ME; Arlington, VA; Miami, FL; and Toronto, Canada.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

This full-time faculty member is expected to bring their intellectual and creative capacity to serve students by participating in a range of teaching and non-teaching activities that support the advancement of the program. They will teach a full teaching load spread throughout the year and will work with the Program Lead on administrative issues and programmatic projects.

Teaching & Curricular Oversight (70% of time)

Teaching and actual course load may vary with other responsibilities, which include, but are not limited to:
  • In conjunction with the Program Lead, develop and implement course learning outcomes, curriculum maps, resource guides, textbooks, syllabi templates, and updated course materials; includes campus-specific coursework as desired.
  • Oversee the instruction of specific courses within the curriculum. Responsibilities include supporting the Program Lead in the selection of part-time instructors, advising on syllabi, and evaluating part-time instructor performance.
  • Identify and provide recommendations to keep the curriculum relevant and industry-leading.
  • Work with the Program Lead to ensure regional programs meet license/accreditation requirements and participate in comprehensive regional evaluations and periodic reviews.
  • In collaboration with the Program Lead, create modularity guidelines and recommendations for program content integration across the program and global campus network.


Program & Campus Support (approximately 20% of time)

In consultation with the Program Lead:
  • Student Recruitment and Program Representation
    • Leverage professional networks and create local events to increase program, college, & University brand.
    • Create and provide oversight of program/industry advisory boards.
    • Represent the program in campus meetings, special events, open houses, and orientations.
    • Represent program in campus accreditation reviews and renewals.
  • Student Support
    • Act as the third line of support for student curriculum/faculty escalations (supporting Program Lead and course Principal Instructor).
    • Serve as faculty sponsor for student-led events and networking opportunities.
  • Faculty Support
    • Recruit and vet qualified candidates for part-time faculty positions, coordinate with Program Lead for secondary interviews and to complete the hiring process with HR.
    • Join campus onboarding meetings for new faculty to provide a face for the program.


Service & Professional Development (10% of time)
  • Participate in program, college, University, and campus meetings as applicable.
  • Serve on committees that support the mission of the program and the vision of the College and wider University.
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain currency and contribute to student learning in their field by promoting the dissemination of knowledge through scholarship/research/creative activity and/or professional development.


Travel
  • In addition to supporting the Miami campus, occasional travel will be required to the University's campuses in Charlotte, NC; Seattle, WA; Toronto, Canada; Portland, ME; Arlington, VA; Silicon Valley, CA; Oakland, CA; and Boston, MA.
    • Examples of required travel include annual events like CPS Graduation and the CPS Faculty Conference.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must demonstrate strong teaching abilities and a dedication to continued improvement as an educator. Experience teaching at the master's level, teaching and developing in-person and online courses, and proven success in working with international students are desired attributes.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and characteristics:
  • A terminal degree from an accredited institution either in project management or a related field by appointment start date.
  • An active Project Management Professional (PMP) credential awarded through the Project Management Institute. Other relevant project management credentials will also be considered.
  • 10+ years of professional experience at the project manager level.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the broader project management community and the range of project management maturity levels of organizations.
  • Experience teaching at the master's level in both in-person and online environments.
  • Demonstrate a dedication to continued improvement as an educator and a desire to align with the scholar-practitioner model.
  • It is highly desirable that candidates have a track record of presenting to Project Management Chapters, Interest Groups, and other Industry groups on project management topics.
  • It is also highly desirable for candidates to have experience managing artificial intelligence (AI) and/or information technology (IT) projects.

Supervision

This position reports to the Program Lead for Project Management programs.

This is a non-tenure track, annually renewable position. This position requires a flexible work schedule that includes being present on the Miami campus, required evening hours and the possibility of weekend hours. Travel to the University's other campuses may be required.
