PURPOSE:
Under the direct supervision of the Director of the Student Disability and Accessibility Center (SDAC), the Testing and Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Assistant Coordinator is responsible for overseeing testing accommodations for students registered with SDAC. The position also supports Deaf and Hard of Hearing support services needs. This team member works with a high degree of self-direction, while responding to student requests for services, problem-solving challenges, and supporting communications at multiple levels.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
Test Center Scheduling and Testing Services
- Coordinates and schedules testing of students with disabilities, and provides alternate options timely and in collaboration with SDAC advisors as needed.
- Independently provides testing and proctoring services to students with disabilities.
- Prepares materials and/or arranges for testing materials to be returned to the academic department(s).
- Coordinates with SDAC Advisors and/or academic departments to confirm test dates, and secures alternate test facilities when needed.
Test Center Coordination
- Works collaboratively and in coordination with the Testing and DHOH Coordinator for the overall accommodated testing program and services to students with disabilities.
- Maintains and updates the Test Center's processes and procedures.
- Ensures the Test Center has necessary supplies, creating orders as needed in consultation with the Testing and DHOH Coordinator and Operations Analyst.
- Consults with the supervisor, the Director of the Student Disability and Accessibility Center, as appropriate on matters outside routine operations, providing recommended changes to resolve complex problems or approaches.
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services Coordination
- Clarifies and follows up with requests to respond effectively to the needs of students, faculty and staff for testing/DHOH services.
- Supports Deaf Services video transcription and video captioning, including post-production and live captioning service.
- Provides support to the Testing and DHOH Coordinator for workflow of campus hourly ASL interpreters including the recruitment, onboarding, training, workflow, scheduling, and timesheet review and reconciliation.
Student Assistant Coordination
- Works collaboratively with the Testing and DHOH Coordinator to provide work direction to Test Center student assistants, including work schedule.
- Works collaboratively with the Testing and DHOH Coordinator to provide overall support to student assistant recruitment and hiring, and monthly timesheet review.
Other Functions:
- Perform other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.
- Provides support assistance as needed to the Student Disability and Accessibility Center.
- Provides overflow and backup support for Alternate Media accommodation requests.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of: correct English, including grammar, spelling, punctuation and editing; office systems and ability to use a broad range of technology, systems, and packages. Detailed knowledge of, or the ability to, quickly learn applicable university infrastructure, policies and procedures. Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures. Experience to be fully functional in all technical aspects of work assignments.
Ability to: quickly acquire a thorough, detailed knowledge of applicable university infrastructure, policies, and procedures; make sound independent decisions and recommendations based on current policies and procedures and a thorough analysis of current situations; independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects under strict deadlines; apply a wide variety of policies and procedures where specific guidelines may not exist; perform standard business math, such as calculate ratios and percentages, track financial data and make simple projections; draft and compose correspondence and standard reports; effectively handle a broad range of interpersonal contacts, including those at the highest level and those requiring strict confidentiality; address common and unique problems using reasoning and judgement to develop practical, thorough, and creative solutions; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse, academic environment. Exceptional ability to communicate verbally and in writing, in a professional, persuasive and tactful manner.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite. These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents, combined with several years of related office work experience.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS:
Proficient in the Google workspace, scheduling programs, and specialized databases related to disability management. Ability to recognize confidential matters and maintain confidentiality; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a multicultural and diverse community using respect and effective interpersonal skills; take proactive and positive measures to ensure optimal support of the office. Ability to learn, interpret and apply a wide variety of Federal, State, and University regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse, academic environment. Exceptional ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a professional, persuasive and tactful manner. A strong customer service attitude and commitment is essential. Demonstrated ability to address the essential functions associated with this position including the knowledge and abilities identified above.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
College degree. Working knowledge of CSUMB. Specialized training in administrative/clerical support and assistive technologies Includes proficiency with database management, student information systems, presentation and graphic design/creative-based software. Experience working with diverse populations in an academic setting.
Technical fluency with Microsoft Office Professional Suite; Oracle-PeopleSoft, CSU Common Management System or equivalent student information system; Google workspace, mail and calendaring programs. Experience in hiring and supervising student staff. General knowledge of: the California Education Code, the State and Federal regulations regarding disability issues and policies, Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act, and FERPA.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. The position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time. May require travel between campus offices and off-campus locations.
