Job Summary


CU Boulder encourages applications for an Assistant Dean of Infrastructure! The Assistant Dean of Infrastructure provides leadership for construction and space administration activities related to buildings that house the College of Arts and Sciences (A&S). A&S is located in ~50 buildings, comprising nearly 2 million assignable square feet of classrooms, offices, research laboratories, and administrative support space.

The Assistant Dean of Infrastructure represents A&S to internal and external constituents on all issues related to space, and construction management. The assistant dean acts as Owners Representative, coordinating activities between Infrastructure & Sustainability (Planning, Design, Construction, and Operations) and A&S partners for construction projects. The assistant dean is responsible for coordinating the most effective and efficient use of assigned physical infrastructure to promote the delivery of the College's mission and is responsible for creating and maintaining a built environment that supports student success.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be


Construction Administration:
  • Supervise delivery of construction projects within the A&S portfolio.
  • Prioritize Sustainability and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in construction-related decision-making.
  • Ultimate responsibility for budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Manage the A&S construction budget.
  • Participate in design and construction-related solicitations and awards.
  • Support start-up and retention planning via risk assessments and conceptual budgeting.
  • Coordinate long-term planning efforts for capital construction.
  • Champion sustainable and energy-efficient project delivery.

Space Administration:
  • Plan and forecast space requirements to support A&S success.
  • Prioritize Sustainability and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in space-related decision-making.
  • Chair the A&S Space Committee.
  • Review space requests and advise the A&S Space Committee on recommended courses of action.
  • Study A&S use of space and provide what-if scenario planning to help improve utilization, function, and overall occupant satisfaction.
  • Align capital renovation projects and space acquisitions with A&S goals and interests.
  • Manage space reallocation projects and programs.
  • Working with Deans, focus on efficient and equitable allocation of space. Ensure space allocations are fluid, matching the ebb and flow of program needs.

Program Development and Upkeep:
  • Develop and support implementation/upkeep of college-wide policies and programs, including but not limited to:
    • Sustainability
    • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
    • Construction/space management
    • Safety
    • Effective space allocation and management

This position will work primarily in person, with some flexibility for remote work.


What We Can Offer


The salary range for this position is $107,800 - $148,225 annually, plus onboarding assistance.

What We Require

  • Master's or JD degree OR an equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the education on a year-for-year basis.
  • At least 5+ years of progressively responsible job related experience.


What You Will Need

  • Proven record of effective conflict resolution.
  • Excellent knowledge of construction project delivery, design, building systems, and construction means and methods.
  • Strong budget management skills, preferably with experience in capital projects.
  • Strong schedule management experience.
  • Knowledge of State Contracting procedures as well as CU Facilities Management procedures for ensuring that projects move through all steps of the process without incident.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills. Initiative to solve problems and research alternative paths of resolution
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ease in communicating and collaborating on complex projects with clients, designers, contractors, and campus authorities.
  • Strong standards for customer service. Demonstration of excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Facility with all standard office systems and programs (Word, Excel, PP, etc).
  • Working knowledge of Codes and accessibility requirements.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the Higher Education mission, structure, and process.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in portfolio management as it relates to a large campus setting.
  • Expectation and scope management.
  • Understand the values of different project delivery mechanisms.
  • Knowledgeable in risk management, identification, and mitigation.
  • Proven ability to build consensus with disparate collaborators.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas based on dissimilar fields of expertise to a wide audience with a varied knowledge base.
  • Effective decision maker.
