About the opportunity:
The D'Amore-McKim School of Business is seeking a Co-op Counselor to work with our undergraduate student population. You will join a team of more than 30 highly motivated, professional, collaborative individuals who together deliver a best-in-class cooperative education program to business students.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
The Co-op Counselor supports undergraduate students in the D'Amore-McKim School of Business by providing individual and group advising for career development and developing resources supporting career education. In collaboration with other members of the D'Amore-McKim Cooperative Education team, the Co-op Counselor creates, facilitates, and coordinates student and alumni workshops and events.
Additionally, the Co-op Counselor develops programming and additional supports for special student populations, including F1 & J1 learners, student athletes, student entrepreneurs, and Global Scholars; and supports the creation of content and communications via a variety of methods and media to effectively convey information and support to students. This position reports to the Associate Director, Cooperative Education and is part of the Co-op Counselor Team.
Student Advising - 65%
Advise a caseload of assigned students seeking co-op experiences. Develop rapport to support increased self-awareness of life and career goals, interests, and values. Support job searches with resume and cover letter reviews; job search strategies; interview preparation, practice, and debriefs; and job offer considerations.
Serve as a specialist to support a subset of students seeking to find and create their own co-op experiences outside of Northeastern' s co-op database, known as "self-developing a co-op."
Reach out, connect, and support D'Amore-McKim students during their co-op and internship experiences.
Program Support - 25%
Collaborate with Co-op Coordinators to support the student program, including core curriculum via the "Professional Development for Business Co-op" course, targeted efforts for first-year student career development, as well as programming for seniors preparing to graduate.
Collaborate with leadership team and Co-op Coordinator colleagues to launch and sustain the new Summer Internship program.
Collaborate with Co-op Coordinators to create, facilitate, and support career education, student, employer, and alumni workshops and events, including handling event logistics.
Liaise with two assigned D'Amore-McKim Co-op "industry teams" to understand student needs and collaborate to design information and opportunities to meet identified needs, including resource development.
Student Communication - 5%
Collaborate to shape unique and recurring email outreach to students preparing for, seeking, and participating in co-op and internship experiences, including newsletters.
Ideate and experiment with new mediums and methods of communicating information to students.
Draft content for external communications.
Support receiving, organizing, and updating information posted on an internal-facing website for students, including resources, information, and curriculum that cover career education as well as co-op and internship job searches.
General Support - 5%
Ongoing research of enabling technologies, communication methods, and best practices in college student career development programming.
Collaborate with Data Associates to develop, distribute, and analyze quantitative and qualitative surveys, synthesizing conclusions and validating with relevant stakeholders.
Collaborate to support team, college, or university initiatives as they arise.
Other duties and projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree.
Minimum of 1 year professional work experience (co-ops, internships, and part-time office experiences qualify).
Prior experience teaching, coaching, advising, counseling, or facilitating either in one-on-one or group settings.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, and comfort presenting to diverse audiences.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides).
Exposure to quantitative and qualitative survey design and analysis.
Strong task and project management skills.
Knowledge and appreciation of cooperative education and/or experiential learning and its impact on an individual's career development.
