Job Description
The Center for Global Engagement, (CGE), is hiring a New Student and Special Programs Coordinator to join a team of professional advisors in our International Student and Scholar Services unit. Working together, the team provides a broad range of services to international students, scholars and their dependents including immigration advising, adjusting to life at University of Tennessee, Knoxville and supporting students in academic and post-graduation activities.
Position Responsibility
This position coordinates the transition of admitted student to students of record at the University of Tennessee. This includes the issuance of F visa immigration documents, communication regarding arrival, pre-arrival engagements, information on the initial transition to student life, and orientation registration. In addition, this position facilitates the operation of special and cohort programs requiring unique engagement as part of the immigration document issuance and arrival process.

Initial Immigration, Advising and Processing

This includes consulting with the student in order to determine what immigration status and process to pursue, determining what documentation a student can use to satisfy immigration requirements, the coordination of trans-institutional SEVIS transfers, and document issuance in Sunapsis. In addition, this includes advising appointments with departments, sponsors, recruiters, and admitting units on the correct immigration process to pursue for newly admitted students via Zoom, email, and in-person appointments. This role is also responsible for initial data import into Sunapsis, the deferral or cancellation of immigration records, and data maintenance of initial form I-20s and DS-2019s.

Pre-Arrival Advising

This includes serving as the liaison between ISSS and campus stakeholders to create comprehensive information on the visa process, housing, cultural adjustment, immunizations, health insurance, employment, and orientation, and the dissemination of this information to departments students, and recruiters through mass emails, websites, and pre-arrival webinars.

Special Program Coordination

This includes consultation with other departments, admissions, and recruiters in order to determine the correct immigration status and process, determine the admission procedure, schedule and data tracking required for the program. In addition, this includes the coordination of program arrival and departure, immigration compliance for the program, and the pre-arrival advising on cultural adjustment, personal issues, health insurance, housing and orientation.

International Student Orientation

This includes the development of content, coordination of sessions and presentation at international student orientations.

Programming

This includes the development and execution of programs, initiatives, trainings, and outreach to international students and campus stakeholders, which promote better service to and retention of international students on-campus.

Required Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience:
    • One to two years of experience in higher education. This experience can include internships and time spent as a graduate assistant.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations pertaining to the operation of F students and J exchange visitors.
    • Knowledge of best practices pertaining to the operation of an international services unit.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in a multi-cultural environment.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Education:
    • Master's degree
  • Experience:
    • One to two years working in international recruitment, admissions, or exchange programs at a university.
  • Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
    • Skill in using Banner and the Student Exchange Visitor System (SEVIS).
    • Knowledge of international admission and recruitment practices.


Work Location

This is an on-campus position with some flexibility for working a hybrid/remote schedule. The successful candidate must be willing to work occasionally on weekends, evenings, and/or overnights while traveling.

Other Conditions of Employment

Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident in order to be cleared as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer.

Compensation and Benefits
  • UT market range: MR08
  • Anticipated hiring range: $38,000 - $45,000
  • Regular Full Time Exempt
