The Senior Staff Accountant is a key member of the General Accounting & Financial Reporting team at Boston University. This position has the potential to work a hybrid schedule under the University's remote work guidelines.
Major duties of this position include:
- Responsible for the accounting related to property, plant & equipment, capital projects, leases, and debt and interest related activities.
- Prepare key general ledger account reconciliations and monitor several balance sheet areas.
- Prepare initial drafts of the University's monthly financial statements and related schedules, including the review and investigation of unusual fluctuations.
- Works closely with other members of the General Accounting staff, Budget, Research Accounting, and many other areas around the University.
- Prepare monthly and year-end journal entries.
- Participate in the annual external audits, including preparing schedules and pulling support related to audit selections.
- Special projects as assigned including, but not limited to, performing outreach for unusual transactions, developing process improvements, utilizing new applications for data analysis such as Power BI, or preparing ad-hoc reports and reconciliations that support the department overall.
Pay Range
Salary grade: 48
Minimum $59,600, Midpoint $80,500, Maximum $101,300
Salary offers are based on related experience, expertise, and internal equity; generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- 3-5 years of accounting experience.
- Advanced skills utilizing Excel, including complex formulas in order to acquire, organize, and analyze data.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices with the ability to communicate topics and theories to internal non-accountant partners.
- Experienced in analyzing data to determine relevant conclusions and suggest appropriate actions to management.
- Proven track record to multi-task and prioritize routine tasks and ad-hoc requests.
- Ability to demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
- Detail oriented, demonstrating accuracy and quality of work output.
- Ability to work optimally and collaboratively in a small, collegial team environment.
- Self-motivated, proactive, intellectually curious.
Preferred, but not required skills:
- CPA or CPA candidate
- Experience with ERP desirable, SAP
