Job Summary
The Distribution Center (DC) at CU Boulder encourages applications for an Assistant Director of Distribution Services! This role is responsible for leading the DC in delivering a wide range of client-focused logistics and supply chain management services to the division of Infrastructure and Resilience (I&R) and the Boulder campus. Responsibilities include oversight of procurement and inventory management; central receiving and distribution; domestic and export shipping; warehouse storage services; processing and delivery of U.S. and university mail and packages; surplus property processing and disposal; moving and hauling services; centrally scheduled classrooms furniture support; and sale of used furniture. Authority includes managing compliance with local, state and federal rules, and regulations, including those related to hazardous materials. The role is responsible for annual operating budgets in excess of $3 million and oversight of 30-35 FTE as well as part-time and student employees. This position is also responsible for supporting the structural resources (people, systems, finances, technology, etc.) assigned to these work units. The position is expected to align operations with campus and I&R division strategic objectives and goals.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Administration and Operations
- Provide strategic and daily oversight of the administrative and operational activities of the DC.
- Ensure each functional area and their attendant policies and processes are in accordance with all applicable federal, state and university policies, procedures, rules and regulations, and aligned with the goals, service objectives and financial expectations of the I&R division.
- Provide informed input into the development and monitoring of budget allocations, expenditures, fund balances, and related financial activities to help ensure prudent fiscal practices are followed.
- Oversee all related Distribution Center contracts, MOU's, and other agreements to ensure terms, operational requirements and customer expectations are being met.
- Be responsible for the quality of service delivery, logistics planning, maintenance, event and surplus equipment auction support.
- Provide oversight of capital equipment asset replacement models to ensure adequate funding is allocated.
Personnel Management
- Create and maintain a professional, diverse, and customer-focused organizational team.
- Align employee strengths with professional roles and provide supervision, training and coaching.
- Ensure that individual employees' performance expectations are aligned with organizational goals and strategic priorities and provide feedback for staff performance. Instill the philosophy of standard process in work units and staff members, directing that safe work practices are adopted and followed.
- Promote a work environment that values and reinforces compliance, innovation, engagement, quality, customer service, problem-solving, collaboration, integrity, inclusiveness, and collegiality within work units and across campus.
- Recognize individual and group accomplishments.
- Develop and maintain staff succession plans.
- Manage personnel issues within the work units in a timely manner, involving I&R Human Resources as necessary.
- Direct the establishment of performance plans and evaluations of performance in accordance with UCB and I&R policies and procedures.
- May be delegated as the appointing authority representative for Distribution Services.
Planning Strategically
- Participate in the implementation of I&R long-term planning efforts.
- Ensure Distribution Center goals and activities support and enhance I&R's mission, vision, values and strategic goals.
- Integrate performance measurement, data collection, analysis and benchmarking into the Distribution Center's operational plans to ensure focused attention to the organizational goals.
- Provide leadership and expertise to inform decisions about the prioritization of resources (people, financial, infrastructure and technology) to achieve DC and I&R goals.
- Conduct long-term planning to meet changes in customer needs; identify and implement critical initiatives and oversee assets, with emphasis on implementing new technologies that meet the needs of customers and the university's sustainability goals.
- Stay current with industry standards, trends and innovations through professional memberships, continuing education, and conferences.
Community Relations and Outreach
- Develop and enhance collaborative relationships to include internal and external entities and activities.
- Work with unit staff and managers/supervisors to ensure development of partnerships and collaboration with various campus departments and campus/community events.
- Develop, cultivate, and manage effective and financially sound business relationships with various suppliers.
- Work with unit managers/supervisors and staff to further the goals of the broader I&R organization.
- Facilitate (or participate in) related meetings and collaborative processes to educate others, identify service objectives and support and serve the campus community.
- May serve on internal or external committees, boards, and councils or be assigned special projects to support the campus goals and objectives.
Promote a Workplace Culture of Safety
- Support and continuously improve workplace safety.
- In collaboration with the division safety officer, EH&S, employee safety committee and other Facility Operations assistant directors, ensure adequate standard operating procedures, employee training and proper personal protective equipment are in place to meet workplace occupational standards of safety.
- Conduct safety assessments, review root cause analysis incident investigation, enforce safe behaviors and workplace standard methodologies to mitigate job hazards and minimize incident rates.
What You Should Know
This is an in-person position and the anticipated work schedule is Monday-Friday, typically from 7am-3:30pm.
What We Can Offer
The salary range for this role is $98,000 - $111,000 annually.

What We Require
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, logistics or closely related field. Substitution: A combination of work experience in managing inventories, logistics, or warehousing may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
- Five years of professional experience in supply chain management, including managing inventory and business processes of a warehouse or distribution operation.
- Five years experience in management and supervision.
