Job Summary
The Department of Athletics encourages applications for the Academic Coordinator! This position provides overall academic support to the Mission of the Herbst Academic Center (HAC). The Academic Coordinator coordinates and monitors the academic services provided to student-athletes in a professional and collaborative work environment. This position works directly with student-athletes on designated teams, which may include football or men's basketball and other Olympic sports, and collaboratively with HAC staff. They develop relationships on campus to benefit the HAC mission. This position is responsible for promoting the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, including the dedication to creating and supporting a campus environment where everyone matters and all can thrive. This shall include adhering to the principles of the Athletic Department's Mission Statement, Core Values, Policies and Procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the HAC, University, the Big 12 Conference, and the NCAA. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Plan, coordinate, and monitor the academic services provided to student-athletes:
- Understand and implement strategic planning designed by HAC staff.
- Create Individual Academic Plan (IAP) for each student and then coordinate use of unit and campus-wide resources that will ensure delivery of academic support to best allow each student-athlete to succeed academically.
- Collaborate with all Herbst Academic Center staff in order to uniformly deliver services.
- Meet with students on caseload regularly, typically one-on-one.
- Collaborate with departmental academic advisors in planning degree programs.
- Connect with faculty regarding class progress and/or issues.
- Monitor academic eligibility of each individual student-athlete.
- Work in conjunction with Director of Eligibility in the Office of the Registrar to track and understand progress towards degree and each eligibility mark.
- Monitor Academic Progress Rate (APR) of entire squad.
- Travel with team(s), as needed, to provide academic support, structure, and proctoring of assignments.
- Provide clear, consistent communication on a frequent basis to supervisor and all academics' staff.
- Complete documentation of individual sessions and progress of assigned student-athletes, as well as in their Individual Academic Plans.
- Report regularly to coaches on the academic progress of their student-athletes.
- Engage in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes as part of the recruiting process.
- Participate in representational activities that are required of the Herbst Academic Center.
- Serve on unit, department, and/or University committees that elevate positive connections and valuable partnerships.
- Serve as Herbst Academic Center liaison to one of CU's colleges/schools/programs.
- Perform all work responsibilities and maintain confidentiality in all applicable policies, rules, regulations and laws regarding NCAA, Big 12, Athletics Department, University, and HAC policies and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Participate in activities that are required of the Herbst Academic Center and are a part of the student-athlete recruiting process.

What We Require
- Bachelor's Degree in education or comparable field.
- One year of experience advising, mentoring, counseling college students including experience working with Division I student-athletes in Division I athletics department.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
- May require some travel with teams.
What You Will Need
- Knowledge of student learning styles.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations regarding student-athlete academic eligibility, APR, GSR, and PTD.
- Knowledge of and experience with tracking, reporting, and operating system/software/applications such as Teamworks, Google Workspace, OneDrive.
- Ability to develop individualized learning plans.
- Ability to coach, guide, and direct student-athlete learning.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to maintain detailed documentation and records.
