Position Summary

Reporting to a Professor, the Freshwater Ecology Laboratory Technician supports a range of projects and assists in coordinating multiple projects and tasks in the lab. They assist with studying the effects of altered water flow and climate-driven drought on the benthic algal assemblages in the Colorado River downstream of Glen Canyon Dam in Arizona.

This is a 12-month assignment.

Essential Functions

Organizes and catalogues samples collected from the field.

Processes diatom and soft-bodied algae specimens for microscopy.

Prepares and analyzes samples.

Prepares periphyton samples for phosphorus, carbon, and nitrogen analysis.

Responsible for data entry and basic statistics.

Assists graduate and undergraduate students in the lab.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience

Bachelor of Science in life sciences, biology, ecology, and environmental science.

Experience using phase and DIC research microscopes.

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills

Course in statistics/data analysis or similar.

Proficiency in the use of MS Excel and Word.

Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education

Preferred Qualifications

College course in analytical / environmental chemistry.

Familiarity using a CHN analyzer and/or nutrient autoanalyzer).

Experience with diatom identification.

Minimum Starting Salary: $36,000

Maximum Starting Salary: $41,000

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
