Position Summary

Reporting to a Professor, the Freshwater Ecology Laboratory Technician supports a range of projects and assists in coordinating multiple projects and tasks in the lab. They assist with studying the effects of altered water flow and climate-driven drought on the benthic algal assemblages in the Colorado River downstream of Glen Canyon Dam in Arizona.



This is a 12-month assignment.



Essential Functions

  • Organizes and catalogues samples collected from the field.

  • Processes diatom and soft-bodied algae specimens for microscopy.

  • Prepares and analyzes samples.

  • Prepares periphyton samples for phosphorus, carbon, and nitrogen analysis.

  • Responsible for data entry and basic statistics.

  • Assists graduate and undergraduate students in the lab.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in life sciences, biology, ecology, and environmental science.

  • Experience using phase and DIC research microscopes.




Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills

  • Course in statistics/data analysis or similar.

  • Proficiency in the use of MS Excel and Word.

  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education




Preferred Qualifications

  • College course in analytical / environmental chemistry.

  • Familiarity using a CHN analyzer and/or nutrient autoanalyzer).

  • Experience with diatom identification.




Minimum Starting Salary: $36,000



Maximum Starting Salary: $41,000



Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
