Job Summary:

The Financial Analyst is responsible for managing day-to-day Finance Office operations related to cost study reviews of campus service centers. This role works closely with department customers, Financial Services leadership, and campus leadership to provide guidance, financial analysis, tools, and training in relation to service centers as well as other areas of financial analysis oversight. This position will develop costing models consistent with campus policies and ensure colleges and/or departments adhere to these models. The Financial Analyst will develop dashboard reports publishing service centers' basic information and billing rates on a central webpage.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Study Review and Training (50%)
  • Review cost studies submitted from campus departments to ensure they are in line with internal service center policy, financially viable, and that allocations are done appropriately.
  • Act as a main point of contact for service center helpline and field questions related to cost study of service centers.
  • Assist departments in developing costing models to ensure all costs are included and assumptions on revenue validated.
  • Monitor the financial activity and viability of service centers throughout the year.
  • Assist with other financial analysis activities related to campus operations.
  • Review campus policy related to service centers to ensure policy is compliant with federal regulations. Research other Universities' policies to keep current with trends in higher education.
  • Provide cost study training and coaching to campus department personnel.

Financial Analysis (30%)
  • Responsible for independently performing analysis and recommending actions from the analysis and interpretations of data, processes and policies.
  • Analyze auxiliary revenues for UBIT determination. Work with leadership on UBIT identification and tracking.
  • Reconcile and analyze iLab transaction data to ensure accounting accuracy and to correct or reclassify any abnormal balances. Reconcile revenue contracts with auxiliary revenues in general ledger.

iLab System Management (20%)
  • Act as the main point of contact for setting up new service center accounts in iLab billing system and facilitate working relationship between departments and the vendor.
  • Provide training, trouble shooting, and coaching for departments to process billing through iLab system.
  • Monitor and analyze iLab billing system used by service centers to ensure billings are performed timely and accounting allocations are done accurately.

The University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus employs 4,000 individuals, instructs over 16,000 students, and has a budget of $4 million. Fiscal Compliance is responsible for ensuring the University of Colorado Denver| Anschutz Medical Campus adheres to external laws, sponsor regulations, and internal policies and procedures. The team works to promote strong financial management in order to avoid missteps that could have a negative impact for the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus.

The Finance Office is responsible for all University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus accounting and financial functions which include but are not limited to:
  • the maintenance of financial systems,
  • reporting of financial information,
  • capital construction accounting,
  • reconciliations between the general ledger and related subsystems,
  • accounting feed/interface with the State's accounting system,
  • providing accounting support to various campus departments,
  • internal reviews,
  • interpretation/compliance of state, federal, and university fiscal rules.

Work Location:

This role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 1 day per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings. This position is not eligible for 100% remote work.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in business administration, finance, accounting or related field. Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
  • 5+ years of experience working in a financial or business analysis role.
  • Prior experience building sophisticated financial models used to evaluate the costing of business services.
  • Progressive experience displaying quantitative information, developing costing methodologies for services, and data modeling and financial analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in Higher Education
  • Experience in costing services in Higher Education
  • Expert Excel skills with proficiency in advanced data/financial operations.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range for this position has been established as: $62,614 - $82,270

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
