JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Director of Undergraduate Medical Education assists the Associate Deans of Medical Education and Student Affairs in directing and managing the administration of the office, personnel, administrative functions, and accreditation activities. This position acts on issues regulated by accreditation requirements, established policies and procedures, and on instructions of the Associate Deans.
Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensures the most effective operations of the Medical Education, Student Affairs and Evaluation & Assessment functions.
- Establishes calendar of recurring/annual deadlines for OME & Student Affairs operations; collaborates with staff to identify & prioritize all significant functions.
- Collaborates with the Assistant and Associate Deans to define performance expectations for all UME and Student Affairs functions.
- Establishes and maintains service standards and metrics for the departments and monitors over time.
- Determines and mitigates ongoing challenges with current workflows, identifies procedural points of failure, reviews and compares position descriptions for accuracy, and identifies gaps & redundancies in resources, program development, process improvement, and the coordination/integration of processes with other departments.
- Oversees management for all functions related to personnel, including recruitment, interviewing, hiring, training, counseling, discipline, and evaluations.
- Participates on interdepartmental committees to address problems, identify and share best practices, and facilitate information exchange.
- Advises and consults with Deans on strategic and operational planning issues.
- Analyze operations and opportunities for future direction and/or improvement. Prepares and presents operational reports.
- Manages and directs LCME-required processes, ensuring that the Institution is compliant with LCME Requirements.
- Oversees the development and implementation of policies, procedures and processes regarding UME, student affairs, and evaluation and assessment.
- Coordinates efforts between vendors, IT, and College of Medicine staff to implement curriculum-management software systems.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years of relevant experience, including direct experience working with datasets and generating reports and supervising ten (10) or more staff; OR Master's Degree and two (2) years of relevant experience, including direct experience working with datasets and generating reports and experience supervising ten (10) or more staff.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent organizational skills, critical thinking skills, and sound judgment.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize work assignments and meet deadlines.
- Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously. Must be able to work independently.
- Computer proficiency; proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Proficiency with Microsoft Power BI.
- Ability to supervise.
- Ability to create and deliver training.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work evenings and weekends. May require occasional overnight travel.
