Job Description
The University of Tennessee College of Architecture and Design invites applications for the position of Director of Information Technology. The Director will manage and organize the computing initiative for the College, including curriculum, faculty support, instructional support, administrative support, physical infrastructure, purchases, and policies. This role currently supervises 1 FTE and reports to the Director of Finance and Administration within the College of Architecture and Design.
The Director of IT will oversee all computing resources, staff, and facilities within the College of Architecture and Design. This includes managing the Digital Print Center, MATLAB, network, workstations, and shared facilities. The Director will also develop policies for network, hardware, and software use, manage the computing budget, and integrate computing resources with the academic mission.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Managing and coordinating computing resources: Oversee all College computing resources, staff, and facilities, including the Digital Print Center, MATLAB, network, workstations, and shared facilities. Supervise technical staff and coordinate digital fabrication resources and the college website.
- Administering computing resources and policies: Develop and implement policies for network, hardware, and software use, manage the computing budget, prioritize acquisition of computing resources, respond to grant requests, and oversee hardware and software purchasing and licensing. Maintain equipment inventory and manage surplus equipment.
- Integrating computing resources with the academic mission: Serve on the Digital Technology Committee, support and collaborate with faculty for courses, assist faculty and students with computing resources, and develop and teach workshops and computer-related design classes for students, faculty, and staff.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in technology, focused on Design or vice versa.
- Experience: 5-6 years of extensive IT-related work experience
- Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- High proficiency in both Windows and Macintosh environments.
- High proficiency in CAD applications.
- Ability to thoroughly evaluate and budget for the acquisition of computing resources.
- Highly knowledgeable of the architectural design and production process.
- Well-developed supervisory skills.
- Ability to provide concise technical training and guidance to all faculty, staff, and students within the college.
- Well-developed customer service skills.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Master's degree in technology, focused on Design or vice versa.
- Experience: 4+ years of above work experience to be in a university background.

Compensation
- UT market range: MR16
- Anticipated hiring range: The anticipated minimum salary for this position is $98,000 per year, plus a comprehensive benefits package. Actual salary is commensurate with education, experience, and skills.

The College of Architecture and Design (CoAD) is one of 14 academic colleges at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, a Research-1, land-grant university that houses 900+ programs of study.
