Position Summary:
The Academic Coach's main function is to offer individualized learning strategies and targeted support services, identify any roadblocks to students' academic success, and give students the necessary resources to achieve their academic goals.
Example of Job Duties:
Under the direction of the Director of Tutoring and Academic Support, the Academic Coach is responsible for providing a wide range of academic support services to promote the retention and success of all students by helping students develop the skills, behaviors and habits that contribute to success in college through effective performance in these essential duties:
- Provide academic coaching through individual or group sessions
- Assess students' learning needs and develop academic success plans to help students achieve their academic goals.
- Instruct students on individualized academic strategies including recommending and modeling effective time management and organization skills, goal setting, note-taking, test taking/studying, and effective reading and writing strategies
- Monitor students' progress with regular check-ins, scheduled meetings, and proactive outreach and communication.
- Motivate students to practice self-regulation, self-advocacy, and taking ownership of their academic success.
- Help students identify, develop, and implement learning strategies and study skills customized to specific disciplines and course materials.
- Collaborate with Guided Pathway Advisors and ODAS Campus Lead to address students' academic challenges and promote the use of the Tutoring Center's coaching and tutoring services.
- Act as liaison with faculty to gather relevant course materials and ensure that students are achieving the necessary learning outcomes for successful course completion.
- Refer students to various college resources, such as Career Development Center, Office of Disability and Accessibility Services, Financial Aid, etc.
- Create and deliver workshops and presentations on study strategies and the effective use of digital learning resources.
- Supervise the Tutoring Center in the absence of the Director or Coordinator.
- Perform other related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree.
Incumbents are required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following:
- Two (2) years of experience teaching, tutoring or advising college students.
Candidates must possess proven ability to effectively work with culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and students. They are expected to have excellent interpersonal oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working experience in a community college setting.
- Special education background or strong familiarity with the appropriate accommodations, learning strategies, assistive technology and resources for students with special needs
Salary:
$39.44 hourly.
