Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Director and Chief Engineer, the Temperature Control Mechanic operates and maintains controls on HVAC systems and other engineering plant equipment. They act as watch mechanic when needed to inspect HVAC systems throughout campus and engineering plant and answer campus-wide repair calls.
The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Essential Functions
- Monitors troubleshoots, and maintains control systems, including pneumatic, Direct Digital Control, and hybrid systems.
- Makes changes and monitors building management computer systems.
- Operates and maintains HVAC central plant equipment, including chillers, absorbers, diesel generators, low-pressure boilers, and associated equipment.
- Installs and commissions Automated Logic controls and other BacNet devices.
- Stands watch mechanic tour monitoring engineering plant equipment and maintain required logs. Monitors pressure, temperatures, and other related parameters; performs preventive maintenance and repairs on HVAC systems and associated equipment. Answers general repair service calls for the campus.
- Repairs and maintains other mechanical and physical plant systems, including motors, pumps, valves, steam-operated equipment, air filters, belts, and other related plant equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years in HVAC systems.
Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills
- Strong digital and pneumatic controls knowledge.
- The candidate shall possess, or must obtain prior to completing their probationary period, the following licenses, certifications, and FDNY Certificates of Fitness. Additionally, other certificates of fitness may be required to meet the duties of the position. Certificates must be maintained throughout the course of employment:
- (F-01) City-Wide Fire Guard for Impairment
- (F-60) Fire Guard for Torch Operations
- (G-60) Torch Use of Flammable Gases for Hot Work Operations
- (A-35) Operate and Maintain Air Compressors
- (P-98) Fuel-Oil Piping and Storage System
- Failure to obtain the required Certificates of Fitness will result in the termination of the employee's employment.

Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred Licenses and Certificates: NYC Refrigeration Systems Operator's License and EPA CFC Universal Certification.
Minimum Biweekly Salary for Internal Applicants with 3 or more years of service: $4,244.00
Maximum Biweekly Salary for Internal Applicants with 3 or more years of service: $4,244.00
Minimum Biweekly Salary for New Employees: $3,395.20
Maximum Biweekly Salary for New Employees: $3,395.20
