Position Description
Performs academic advising, educational, professional, or other basic academic advising or training at the individual or group level as appropriate. Work is performed under supervision with performance based on individual advising effectiveness and overall program results obtained.
Major/Essential Functions
The College of Media & Communication at Texas Tech University is seeking a full-time Academic Advisor for the office of Advising. The Academic Advisor will be responsible with covering the following essential duties:
- Advises students enrolled as a student in TTU Online in one of three majors: Communication Studies, Digital Media & Professional Communication, Public Relations & Strategic Communication Management.
- Assists with student engagement efforts for the CoMC online student population.
- Cross-trains with other majors to help assist students outside of assigned major and modality.
- Counsel students regarding educational issues such as course selection, class scheduling and registration.
- Attends departmental meetings and works closely with the department chair to help assist with scheduling needs and unique student situations.
- Maintains effective customer service, teamwork and attitude on Zoom as well as face to face during meetings.
- Schedules advising meetings.
- Answers student/faculty/staff emails and phone calls in a timely and courteous fashion.
- Acts as support staff for on campus events such as Red Raider Orientations, Advising Pop-In and Graduations.
- Maintains and updates required forms in student advising, orientations and registration.
- Maintains accurate and complete student records.
- Stays current with TTU and national advising organizations.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required; one year related experience.
