Postdoctoral Research Associate

Postdoctoral Research Associate
About the Opportunity
We are seeking a postdoctoral associate to support research focused on the development of advanced electronic structure theory to study fundamental chemistry in heterogeneous catalysis on Northeastern's Boston Campus. Our laboratory values diversity and expects all lab members to foster a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment. The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:
- Develop new electronic structure theory to enable accurate kinetic modeling in heterogeneous catalysis.
- Apply the developed methodology to understand the fundamental chemistry in heterogeneous catalysis.
- Foster a safe, collaborative environment.
- Prepare and write reports, publications, and proposals.
- Guide and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
About our lab: The Zhao Lab in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Northeastern University is an interdisciplinary group working at the interface with computational chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis, electrocatalysis, sustainable energy, and machine learning. We develop and apply electronic structure theory, i.e., density functional theory and correlated wavefunction theory, to design heterogeneous catalysts for new energy and sustainability. We are interested in multiple reactions, including transforming carbon dioxide to fuels, converting nitrogen gas to ammonia, and activating methane to multi-carbon hydrocarbons.
Qualifications:
Must have a Ph.D. with thesis focusing on computational chemistry, computational heterogeneous catalysis, electronic structure theory, or other closely related fields. This position requires excellent communication skills, both interpersonal and scientific, oral and written.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in developing and applying advanced electronic structure theory to simulate heterogeneous catalysis and/or electrocatalysis. The successful candidate will be able to work both independently and collaboratively.
