Position Description
Implement the special education evaluation process. Assess the educational, learning styles, and programs needs of student referred to special education services. Provide diagnostic information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel to provide the most appropriate programs for student with disabilities.
Major/Essential Functions
- Evaluation: Conduct evaluations according to the normative guidelines of the test developer and write reports according to federal and state statutes and federal and T.E.A. regulations. Complete evaluation reports within timelines. Integrate relevant information from school, family, and other professionals into the evaluation report. Interprets information from all sources, develops diagnostic impressions, and makes recommendations. Implement all transfer ARD procedures within timelines (review transfer ARD paperwork to determine need for evaluation; schedule 30-day ARD within timeline).
- Management: Coordinate with campus administration, staff, teachers, and parents to schedule and conduct ARD meetings. Convene ARD meetings within the required timelines. Review ARD paperwork and complete follow-up paperwork in a timely manner (i.e., PEIMS/DEF data). Maintain eligibility folders and monitor accuracy of data.
- Collaboration: Assist teachers and administrators with IEP development implementation. Display professionalism at all times. Collaborate with other professionals in matters relevant to students needs.
- Professional Effectiveness: Acquire new skills and knowledge consistent with the standards of the profession. Support the districts philosophies, mission, and objectives. Maintain current knowledge of special education law, evaluation instruments, and eligibility criteria. Maintain licensure/ certification consistent with the standards of the profession; provide copy of current license/certificate to the district. Complete all University and department required trainings.
- Knowledge of testing, measurements, the use of a variety of standardized and non standardized diagnostic tests, state and federal laws concerning special education, test security and confidentiality standards. Must have strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to interpret test results.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in education assessment and three years teaching experience. Valid Texas teaching certificate and Texas educational diagnostician certificate.
Preferred Qualifications
- Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of diagnostic procedures, education of special education students, human development, and learning theories. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Previous experience as a diagnostician in a Texas public school.
